1. Introduction — A Vision for Future-Ready Learning

In the heart of Gujarat’s innovation capital, Surat is reimagining what education looks like for the next generation. Under the leadership of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), the city has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative — establishing AI & Robotics Labs across SUMAN High Schools.
This initiative brings hands-on learning, AI-powered experimentation, and robotics-based problem solving to more than 11,000 students, free of cost — turning traditional classrooms into innovation hubs aligned with NEP 2020 and Education 4.0.

2. The Driving Force — Surat’s Progressive Civic Vision

The SMC has long been recognized for its data-driven governance and forward-thinking projects. With Municipal Commissioner Smt. Shalini Agarwal, IAS spearheading education modernization, the city is proving that technology-integrated learning is not a privilege but a public right.
Through the Suman High School Board, the initiative aims to provide every student — regardless of background — access to AI, Robotics, and Drone technologies.

Key Departments Involved:

Surat Municipal Corporation (Education Department) – Program ownership and implementation.
Suman High School Board – Oversight of curriculum integration and training.
Government of Gujarat, Department of Education – Policy support under NEP 2020.

3. The Initiative — Building Labs that Build Futures

Each SUMAN AI & Robotics Lab is equipped with 100+ BIS-certified components, AI-native robotics kits, and smart learning stations powered by STEMbotix’s Blockzie AI coding platform.
The labs host students from Grades 9–12, introducing them to real-world applications of AI, Robotics, Drones, IoT, and 3D Printing through a structured, NEP-aligned curriculum.

Scope of Implementation:

18 schools covered, with 12 labs fully operational.
11,000+ learners engaged in AI and Robotics courses.
Free access to technology and teacher-guided sessions.
Each lab designed for 30-student sessions with 98 % uptime through annual maintenance and real-time diagnostics.

4. STEMbotix’s Role — Powering the AI-Native Learning Ecosystem

STEMbotix serves as the technology and academic partner, delivering the city’s first AI-Native Learning Ecosystem.
Our integrated approach combines hardware, software, curriculum, and analytics to ensure learning translates into measurable outcomes.

6. Teacher Empowerment — Building Capacity from Within

Each participating teacher undergoes a 40-hour training program covering AI foundations, robotics integration, and practical assessment techniques.
STEMbotix co-teaches during early sessions, transitions to observation, and finally certifies educators for independent delivery.

Ongoing Support Includes:

Monthly knowledge-sharing clinics.
Refresher workshops.
24×7 technical and academic helpline.

7. Impact and Recognition — A Model for India’s Civic Education

Surat’s initiative marks India’s first city-level AI & Robotics rollout in municipal schools. The project has drawn attention from:

Government of Gujarat’s Education Department, which endorsed it as a replicable model.
NITI Aayog and Atal Innovation Mission, recognizing its alignment with national digital learning goals.
Visits by education leaders and policymakers who have lauded the labs’ real-world student projects.

8. What Lies Ahead — Expanding the Digital Frontier

The SUMAN Schools initiative is only the beginning. SMC and STEMbotix are now planning to:

Expand labs to all municipal schools in Surat.
Integrate advanced AI simulation modules and drone technology.
Launch city-level AI innovation challenges for students.

By 2026, the goal is to create a city-wide network of AI-Native Schools — a model that can be replicated across India’s urban and semi-urban education systems.

9. Conclusion — Surat Leads, India Follows

Surat’s AI & Robotics Lab program proves that public education can be innovative, inclusive, and industry-aligned.
Through this partnership, STEMbotix and SMC are not just setting up labs — they’re building the foundation for India’s AI-driven future, one student at a time.
